이태리의 많은 도시중에서도 해양 도시 국가로서 찬란한 르네상스 문화의 꽃을 피웠던 베네치아!

수중 운하로 연결된 골목 골목마다 물살을 가르며 운행하는 곤돌라와 노 젖는 사공이 목청껏 소리 높 여 부르는 깐쪼네의 낭만! 수많은 비둘기가 무리를 지어 한가히 노니는 베네치아 광장! 해마다 열리는 많은 축제와 행사들을 비롯하여 화려하고 세련된 디자인의 크리스탈 세공과 전통 가면등… 이 모든 것들이 유며한 수중 도시 베네치아를 상징하는데 결코 빼놓을 수 없는 것들이다. 바로 이러한 베네치 아의 아름다움을 음악이라는 예술로 승화시킨 프로젝트팀 Rondo' Veneziano! 그룹명에서 짐작할 수 있듯이 Rondo Veneziano라는 뜻은 베네치아풍의 론도(원무곡)를 말한다.

마에스트로 Gian Peiro Reverberi와 Rondo' Veneziano

베네치아 출신의 클래식 작곡가로 유명한 쟌 피에로 레베르베리(Gian Piero Reverberi)는 1980년 초 반 이태리의 여러 클래식 음악 학교를 졸업한 젊은 음악 학도들을 선발하여 론도 베네치아노(Rondo' Veneziano)를 결성하였다. Rondo' Veneziano는 이태리에서 가장 대중적인 이 무지치(I Musici)나 작 년에 예술의 전당에서 내한 공연을 가진 바 있는 이 솔리스티 베네티(I Solisti Veneti)처럼 잘 알려진 실내악단으로는 최초의 팀이었다. 그후 계속해서 독특하면서도 부드럽고 아름다운 멜로디의 수많은 작품들이 Rondo' Veneziano에 의해 정교하게 연주되었고 리듬파트에서 현대적 악기라 할 수 있는 일렉트릭 베이스와 드럼 등의 악기를 도입하는 등 실질적인 오케스트라 공연에 있어 질적인 향상을 가져오는데 결정적 역할을 하였다.

Rondo' Veneziano를 다른 실내 악단과 구별짓게 하는 주요 특징으로는 그들이 연주하는 다양한 전 통 클래식 음악의 레퍼토리에 있다. 그들은 오로지 Rondo' Veneziano의 창립자이자 이태리 음악계의 거장인 Gian Piero Reverberi에 의해 작곡 및 편곡된 음악만을 연주한다. 또한 시각적인 측면에서 Rondo' Veneziano의 뮤지션들은 모두 항상 18세기의 전통 고유 의상과 가발 등을 착용하므로서 바로 크풍의 음악 분위기를 연출해주고 있다.

Rondo' Veneziano에 의해 발표된 많은 앨범들은 이미 이태리 뿐만 아니라 다른 유럽 국가에서도 골드 레코드 및 플래티넘 레코드를 기록했다. 클랙식 음악을 위한 그들의 연주는 전적으로 라이브로 이루어지는데 그래서 청중들은 항상 Rondo' Veneziano만의 독특하고 특징적인 테마들을 통해 아름답 고 매력적인 하모니를 느낄 수 있는 동시에 멜로디컬한 연주 음악을 들을 수 있다.

본작은 1983년에 발표된 Rondo' Veneziano의 통산 세 번째 앨범으로 커버에서도 볼 수 있듯이 다 가올 21세기의 시작인 서기 2000년대의 고도로 발달된 해양 도시 베네치아의 풍경을 표현해주고 있다. 우주선이 날아다니고 첨단화된 도시의 건물들 사이로 뮤지션들 대신에 로봇이 전통 의상과 가발을 착 용하고 베네치아의 교통 수단이었던 곤돌라(Gondola)위에서 연주를 들려주고 있다.

수록곡을 살펴보면 심야 방송에서의 애청곡이었던 첫곡 (Sinfonia Per Un Addio), 서정적인 아름 다운 멜로디를 들려주는 (Notte Amalfitana), (Colombina) 등을 비롯하여 밝고 경쾌한 분위기의 (La Serenissima), (Rondo' Veneziano), (Arlecchino), (Canal Grande), (Scaramucce), (Arabesco), (San Marco) 등이 다수 수록되어 있다.

Rondo' Veneziano의 음악세계는 일반적으로 생각하는 클래식의 경계를 뛰어넘어 단순히 귀로는 듣는 것만이 아닌 마음으로 느끼고 즐길 수 있는 살아 있는 음악을 들려주는 것이 론도 베네치아노만의 매력이라 할 것이다.

Many other popular recording artists started their careers as members of the group including Jeff Fenholt (ex-Black Sabbath), Kenny Tamplin (Shout/Magdellan). Members of Santana, Chicago have also appeared on the groups album. A new full lenth album will be released in late Summer 2001 produced by Keith Olsen.
